For you, what does it mean to be a motorcyclist?
"Motorcyclist" to me is a name tag which defines my passion. People learn values in life through various means, to me riding is everything and most of the values I learnt is by riding and wandering alone with my soul mate(My bike). Sometime I feel like I am living my life and not surviving it only because I have given my passion all the importance it deserves and this is what ultimately matters at the end of the day. Being a motorcyclist I am doing something that I really want to do. My life will not end with just a mere death it should end with achievement accomplished with passion.
How has motorcycling changed you and your life?
Motorcycling has taught me a disciplined way of living and a path laid out to follow my passion. My all time interest was traveling around and meeting people, wandering with my passion makes it more meaningful and gives me a nice feeling of doing something I really want to. It has made me more independent and tough with the ability to take independent decision which is the most important thing in life. It has transformed my riding from reckless to more disciplined and meaningful.
How would you justify the inherent dangers and risk involved in long distance touring on motorcycles?
Long distance touring entices me I get to travel with the best friend any man can get( himself). You get to realize your inner strengths and weakness and you are the only one who will be responsible to overcome your fears. Deal with people of Varied culture and nature will test your adapting skills to the changing environment. Ever changing climatic conditions also test you a great bit. You never know when evil can strike you in this society, for such a kind of tour you need to be prepared for anything and everything in life. Once you enter J&K your life is uncertain with ever changing climate and also isolation one has to face. India will entertain you like anything.
Tell us briefly about your 2 most memorable motorcycle tours?
Tour 1: Kanyakumari to Kashmir cross country solo bike ride on my Yamaha R15.
This tour was memorable for more than one reasons, It made me take up something that may be my last one and rains only made it worse. My 23 day journey traveling over 7500kms, 12 states, 3 UTs, 3 Indian borders , riding under snow , rains , wind , intense heat, getting to spend time with Indian Army and me being the first rider to take up such a feat with a stock bike and stock tires made it an odyssey to cherish for life time to come. My nation was conquered with my passion.
Tour 2: Western ghats of Karnataka
This was something more close to home and heart covering most parts of western ghats of Karnataka. Rubbing shoulders with the nature made me feel special in the midst of nature. With greenery all around and mist to cover you and the bike.
As a motorcycle tourer, how have you contributed to the society/brotherhood and plan to do so in the years to come?
Today's young generation has never realized the value of importance of giving importance to your passion over your life routine. Nothing follows except for the memories you gain. You may earn in millions but only when you follow your dreams travel your country you will get to know the real essence of life.
Biking clubs are doing great job in bringing like minded people together, we need to use this to make it big in creating awareness amongst people on various issues faced by society.
What are the best and the worst things about motorcycle touring in India?
India will entertain you like anything, our nation teaches you soo much that it can make you more and more capable with every kilometer traveled. The culture you get to experience, people , language changing every 50 km you will feel more enriched with knowledge. As an Indian I have no issues with my country. You may hate it or love it but you can never ignore it!!!
We live this way adapt if you can never think of changing it!!! The same applies to motorcycling.
Golden Question : How do you feel when you ride?
I feel like a King leading a one man army with an endless road leading to eternity. The road which makes you feel blessed and doing so make you live your life rather than surviving it!!! You are a man of your own destiny, only biking will help you give some shape to it. People say nothing is in our hands, but I say I always have the best friends hand in my hand. Ride Hard, ride safe!! Sleep eat ride and then repeat!!!!
