As a motorcycle customizer, what does a motorcycle mean to you both as a machine and as a canvas for your art?
I have been riding BIG bikes since 1998 & have had enough time & experience to gauge the excitement, thrill, tranquility & peace all at the same time...it is motorcycling & the passion for it, that can make you experience all these at once.Riding motorcycles have always helped me channelize all my excess energy & most definitely clear my mind & conscience. The idea of raw power between your legs & a steady mind only helps you to tame the beast you ride...the feeling of accomplishment is nothing less than achieving nirvana in a meditative state of mind.As is evident from the above, over the period of time motorcycles have become a way & part of life for me and what better way to compliment what you ride than dressing it up.What I feel for my machine I express by customizing it.I am truly an artist at heart & my machines are my canvas.
How has customizing motorcycles changed you and your life?
I am a Lawyer by profession & in my profession there is not much room for creativity. By now I am well aware that I have a creative mind & an imagination that may seem to break all boundaries. My motorcycling is a blessing in disguise as all the stress of life and all the excess energy I can channelize into being creative and the best way to express all the creativeness is by reflecting it through my customizing bikes. Motorcycling and customizing them helps me focus the wandering mind and has definitely been a life saver.
How do you relate to the possibility of your creation, a customized motorcycle, being a work of art for you, being ridden and possibly damaged in a mishap?
I am not possessive in nature and do not mind others riding my bikes....but those who ride my bikes should share the same passion that I do and not just start riding for the flash value that the bikes reflect. It is all about appreciating the hard work and creativity that goes in, in making my bikes. If my motorcycle gets damaged in a mishap, it would definitely break my heart, but I shall think of it as a new beginning and the motorcycle shall be my new canvas and I shall express my art of modifications all over again.
Tell us briefly about your 2 most memorable custom motorcycle design created and executed by you.
All my bikes have been very memorable and each one of them holds a special place in my heart. But the most acclaimed of all have been my Suzuki Hayabusa aka Angabusa and my Suzuki Intruder 1800 Limited Edition aka Angtruder L.E.
As a motorcycle customizer, how have you contributed to the society/brotherhood and plan to do so in the years to come?
My customization and modifications have always attracted a lot of positive attention. With all the atention comes a lot of queries/questions about riding a motorcycle in a country like India and the safe/unsafe scenario that comes with it. I have always professed safe and sensible riding with all the protective gear on including protective clothing and a good quality helmet. Most importantly a sane mind is what saves you at the end of the day. I hope to spread the same message in all times to come in all communities of riding and to/with whomsoever comes my way and whosoever I come across. One's life is of prime importance, without it everything shall come to an end.
What are the best and the worst things about being a motorcycle customizer in India?
I cannot categorically state what is the best, but I can surely say that customization for me is the best way to focus and express myself and my creativeness, whether it be in India or anywhere else.
Worst, well the list could be endless specially in our country, but the few things that top my list are, scarcity of parts, technical experts/mechanics, import structure and duty imposed for/on spares, parts etc. The few spares/parts that are available here are exorbitantly priced and make it a tough reach for many, hence the few number of customized bikes in our country.
Golden Question : How do you feel when you ride?
If you sum up all my answers given above, I'm sure you by now would have sensed & figured what a person like me would feel while riding. Speed, power, thrill, calmness, composure, free state of mind to the extent of being meditative with a sane mind and controlled aggression, having the courage and determination to control the beast being ridden to attain nirvana....a cocktail of all the above and the explosion of feelings that come as a result....is exactly how I feel.
