For you, what does it mean to be a motorcyclist?
He should consider his bike to be his soulmate. Not a single day he can live without riding or seeing his bike. He ventures out anywhere anytime with his bike with all trust on his bike. He should give proper maintenance to his bike.
How has motorcycling changed you and your life?
It has had a great impact in my life. It became a distance shortener and the distance that I would usually cover going by bus or train, my bike covers it in lesser time. Initially I couldn't imagine it. Later on, I got to know bikes r made for this. Some days went so so bad that I couldn't live without my bike for even a single day, I returned back to see my darling standing alone at home :-(
How would you justify the inherent dangers and risk involved in long distance touring on motorcycles?
Risks are everywhere bros. A motorcyclist should be brave and should never ride ahead when he is not able to see anything ahead even when headlight is on. I have experienced such odd occasions when there was utmost darkness on highways, raining and inspite of my bike's headlight being on nothing seemed clear ahead and there wasn't light beaming ahead. I stopped and waited for other bikers to go ahead and joined them. While overtaking, all possibilities of accident should be calculated in the mind before itself, so that the mind works in a way to prevent it before itself even at top speeds.
Tell us briefly about your 2 most memorable motorcycle tours?
This trip went without much plans. Took 14 hrs to reach destination. The roads were so awesome and performed a solo ride. Average speed of 70kmph.
Took 40 hrs to reach with breaks in between. Sometimes I rode in utmost darkness on highways with only my bikes lights on. Avg speed was only 30-40. Had protective suits ..i knew it would rain at that time and stopped at petrol stations occasionally and hotels for good food and water. Top speed of 100 at times on Orissa roads coz my bike was hungry of empty roads...it suddenly pounces seeing them ;-)
As a motorcycle tourer, how have you contributed to the society/brotherhood and plan to do so in the years to come?
I have inspired many riders on how to ride safely and when it is safe to reach top speeds. How to have full controls of the vehicle even at top speeds without skidding. My bike goes decorated with the tricolor flag on Aug 15th and Jan 26th on highways and city roads. I have always been like that and I want my brothers to learn how to ride safely. Never ever I rode my bike without using helmets.
What are the best and the worst things about motorcycle touring in India?
The best thing about motorcycle touring in india is that highways are so awesome to ride during daytime. But the same become a danger zone to ride because of no lighting or poor lighting across the roads. after and before crossing Kharagpur ,highways become so dark that any risk can happen while riding. There are several take diversions (i think coz of Golden Quadrilateral proj goin on) which is again a risk for youths who ride at top speed. When it rains, those roads become like hell.
Golden Question : How do you feel when you ride?
I feel like I am a harry potter :-) It gives me so much of pleasure!!
