As a motorcycle customizer, what does a motorcycle mean to you both as a machine and as a canvas for your art?

The idea is to change the relationship between human and machines. I believe in building great products, which I would want to use myself. So I built a company around this concept. My company takes the credit of being India's first "Electric-hybrid custom" automobile and bike manufacturer - Rexnamo Electro Pvt. Ltd.
I am somewhat the "Youngest car & bike customizer" (I was building full scale drivable building cars when I was 12 years old). My dad is an artist by degree; my sister is also an amazing artist, so naturally I also wanted to produce some sort of art. So I went to build full-scale cars and bikes. I always like to give my art some motion. I like to call it - "Art in Motion". When it drives like I want it to, and is aesthetically and functionally sound, - I say it’s done, now let’s move to the next one.

How has customizing motorcycles changed you and your life?

I have always tried to find ways to bring art to full-scale size with which I can interact and ride. I customize cars and motorcycles and I find my life to be much more exciting while doing it. I am happy, my friends are happy, my parents are happy, and I never feel it is some kind of work I am doing. I have over 7000 followers on facebook which is pretty good for someone who made a facebook appearance only a few months ago. By the way, I have never purchased a bike of any other brand, I completely build all my bikes and all of them are electric/battery powered. I also sell my electric bikes. And performance and range on full battery charge are never an issue if one has the money to pay for it.

How do you relate to the possibility of your creation, a customized motorcycle, being a work of art for you, being ridden and possibly damaged in a mishap?

If in case an accident happens, then my team and me are always available for any tweaks, replacements and repairs. I always tell my customers to buy the very best biking gear they can afford. Which includes DOT approved safety helmets and class-leading bike suit and gloves, shoes, etc.

Tell us briefly about your 2 most memorable custom motorcycle design created and executed by you.

I made a fully enclosed Electric superbike (call it a car as it has doors, windows, stereo, seat belts) capable of greater than 210 kmph for competing with the very best race cars and bikes in the world. I also like the custom Electric chopper I created from a Royal Enfield with 6 KW lithium iron-phosphate battery pack and a top speed of 190 KMPH.
All the vehicles I make, be it cars or bikes are Electric (battery powered) only. Some have a petrol engine range-extender to extend range up-to 800km and beyond. Anything is possible. Right now I am also working on a flying car (or roadable aircraft), whichever way you would like to call it.

As a motorcycle customizer, how have you contributed to the society/brotherhood and plan to do so in the years to come?

I have built vehicles from-scratch and extensively modified several personal mobility solutions including cars, limousines, load-carrying vehicles, rickshaws, scooters (vespa inspired). Many of which I drive myself in and around town. It brings a smile to my face and on pedestrian faces as well.
I will showcase my skills and work at the next India Bike Week in Goa. I hope to generate a good response and learn from fellow participants.
Soon I would also roll out commercial vehicles and participate in upcoming Auto-Expos in India and abroad. I want to build a community of people who appreciate performance and fully embrace the eco-friendly Battery operated vehicles. It starts at www.rexled.in Join the mailing list

What are the best and the worst things about being a motorcycle customizer in India?

The best thing is people actually appreciate a good design and are willing to pay for the performance and design value.
The worst thing I think is – the access to quality and economical safety gear and custom designed parts is non-existent. I got my gear from abroad. Also there are no training schools for doing custom bike design (All we have is Internet for inspiration); and there are no racetracks; so people perform stunts on public roads which is not safe for normal traffic.

Golden Question : How do you feel when you ride?

I love it when people smile and ask me, "What is it that you are driving? Which make?" and beg me to take them for a ride. People who are complete strangers also smile and even dance to express their happiness and their proud feeling that there is someone in India who is making our India proud.

For you, what does it mean to be a motorcyclist?

For me being a motorcyclist is driving responsibility and enjoying life; its an amazing feeling to ride on two wheels as you all know.
Being a rider is something and being a customizer is another. I have been customizing bikes since the age of 12 but I am legally driving them since age 18.

How would you justify the inherent dangers and risk involved in riding on motorcycles?

Accidents happen! there is nothing one can do about it other than always being careful of yourself and others on the road. Thats all. I always tell my customers and friends to buy the very best biking gear they can afford. Which includes DOT approved safety helmets and class-leading bike suit and gloves, shoes, etc.

Tell us briefly about your 2 most memorable life-incidents involving you as a motorcyclist?

I have fallen off bikes 2 times, good thing I was wearing safety gear. So always watch out for gravel (small stones) scattered on the road, and the wet roads are your worst enemy; try not to ride a bike at all if its raining. Thats what I learnt.
