For you, what does it mean to be a motorcyclist?
The independence and freedom of the open road is something that is lost when traveling by car.
Every revolution of the wheel gets me closer to the next place down the road. Revolving wheels. It’s mesmerizing and it puts me in a really good place. It’s something I always want to come back to.
How has motorcycling changed you and your life?
Motorcycling made me a perfectionist. It changed me to face any situation, to face any kind of difficulty. I gave importance to both education and riding. Education for my living and riding for happiness.
How would you justify the inherent dangers and risk involved in long distance touring on motorcycles?
For every adventure there will be hidden dangers . No long ride is safe , precautions must be taken at every step and time . only a willing mind should undertake such risks knowing completely the dangers involved . Maintain speed limits and follow the proper rules , all sorts of accidents can be averted .
Tell us briefly about your 2 most memorable motorcycle tours?
Most memorable ride was to Northeast India. where I rode through all Northeastern states(7-sister) which include Assam,Arunachal Pradesh,Nagaland,Manipur,Mizoram,Tripura,Meghalaya. I started from Howrah in West Bengal.Trip lasted for 22 days.Faced lot difficulties.Experinced all kind of wheather from the scorched earth in Culcutta to extreme cold in Arunachal and heavy rain in Mizoram and Tripura.
Ride to west India- Solo ride till Mt.Abu in Rajasthan from Bangalore. Visited Pune,Mumbai, surat, ahmedabad etc. way back nonstop ride from Ahmedabad till Bangalore(24hour night & day).Roamed in Mumbai without knowing location.way back lost way in lonavala area.
As a motorcycle tourer, how have you contributed to the society/brotherhood and plan to do so in the years to come?
As a part of this brotherhood I have participated in several road safety awareness campaign , helmet awareness campaign and so on . I have educated a lot of younger brothers on measures dealing in their safety on the roads .I would plan to conduct ‘Rides for a Cause’ in the following years to come .
What are the best and the worst things about motorcycle touring in India?
People have a wrong perception that wearing full gear and riding means that we are going for racing.I always ride using proper gear , because I know we have to ride safe always. In a fraction of second anything happen.
Best thing is that we get good leanings about motorcycle in India .We are pampered with good and bad about bikes. The worst part would be the roads . We pay road taxes so that we would have a pleasant trip but the conditions here are miserable in most of the states .
Golden Question : How do you feel when you ride?
Riding is not just euphoric. It’s not fun. It just is..and it’s great. I’ve finally started realizing this. But when I’m riding, something is happening in my mind that hasn’t happened before. I think it’s just being in the moment. Thoughts come into my mind and they go out. I don’t really have a thought then go on to another, into infinity
